OZtrail gazebos are manufactured using waterproof and water repellent fabrics, and are also treated for UV resistance. While this creates an added layer of protection, it is not recommended you leave your gazebo unattended in heavy rain nor can you allow it to be exposed under the sun for a prolonged time period. Since OZtrail gazebos are not designed to be used as permanent structures or dwellings, it should be noted that certain practices such as continuous exposure to the elements will reduce the life of the fabric.
Here are some tips and advice on how you can prolong the life of your gazebo.
How To Prolong The Life Of Your Gazebo: Understanding Waterproofness
As our gazebos are designed to be used as a temporary shade structure, extended exposure to bad weather conditions while left unattended will leave water pooling on the canopy which could lead to it tearing and also put strain on the struts and frame causing the bars and legs to either bend or snap. This can lead to damaging both the gazebo and anything else that’s underneath it.
Do’s and Don’ts: What To Do With Your Gazebo When Bad Weather Strikes
Do’s
- Living in Australia we understand there’s a chance you will get caught in an unexpected downpour from time to time which is why we designed a gazebo with anti-ponding bars. The OZtrail Hydroflow Deluxe Gazebo features extra support bars which create tension to prevent water pooling in the canopy corners and will be your safest option if you are someone who spends a lot of time outdoors.
- Ensure that your gazebo is secured firmly to the ground at all times. Check that all peg points and guy ropes are utilised and that they remain secure.
- If you suspect bad weather is on the way it is recommended you drop the gazebo legs to the lowest point. This will not only prevent wind from potentially lifting the gazebo or bending the struts, it will also keep whatever is stored underneath safe.
- Always carry a roll of heavy duty tape which you can use for treating simple repairs, cuts, small rips, and ash burns. This will effectively block the hole and will prevent further tearing.
- When removing the pegs, use another peg, a peg remover or the claw of a hammer hooked under the peg.
Don'ts
- Never leave your gazebo unattended during poor weather conditions. Check and make sure that the water does not pond on the canopy.
- Do not fold up your gazebo while the canopy or accessories are still attached. This could damage your canopy if it gets caught in the scissor action struts.
- Never store your gazebo while it’s damp or dirty to prevent the formation of mildew and corrosion. If you had to pack down in wet conditions, set the gazebo up when you get home to allow it to dry.
- Never use the corner or webbing of the wall as your handle when you’re removing pegs.
Positioning The Gazebo: What You Need To Remember To Prevent Injury
When choosing an area for positioning your gazebo, it’s always a good precaution to study and know the area well. Here are some quick tips to remember to prevent injury.
- Do not position your gazebo on an area that could get flooded.
- Do not position your gazebo near cliffs in case of collapse or rock fall.
- Do not position your gazebo under trees with dead branches or those that are known to drop branches.
- Do not leave your gazebo erected in strong rainy or windy weather conditions.
Post-Use Care Instructions
- Wipe down all surfaces of the gazebo with fresh water after use.
- Clean off mildew using a soft bristle brush or sponge with mild detergent.
- After exposing your gazebo to wet weather or using your gazebo at the beach, treat all poles, zips, and pegs with silicone spray.
